17 February 2021

In order to provide museums with an opportunity to improve the skills of their staff in certain areas of professional activity, the UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty is organising a series of online webinars to build the capacity of museum workers in Central Asia and Southern Caucasus.

General Information
Theme: Evacuation and Emergency Rescue of Museum Collections and Objects
Date: 11 February 2021
Speaker: Ms Shirin Melikova – Director of the National Carpet Museum (Baku, Azerbaijan), President of ICOM Azerbaijan.

Description
In the event of any emergency situation (both natural and human-made disasters) the museums are often the main responsible organizations for the protection and in some cases for the evacuation of museum objects. Effective actions during the emergency situation require immediate coordinated efforts and long preparatory works from all museum workers. These actions take place not only during but also after the disasters, when the museums are dealing with the consequences of emergency situations. Ms Shirin Melikova has unique experience in the organisation of work and the emergency evacuation of museum objects in the context of the military conflict in Nagorny Karabakh region.

Next capacity-building webinar for museum workers will take place on Thursday, 25 February 2021, 14:00-15:30 Almaty time and will be dedicated to the following theme: “Inclusiveness in the Work of Museums”.
