On 19-23 September 2016 the second training for young civil servants from the ministries and departments involved in water governance in Central Asia and Afghanistan was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The event was organized by the German-Kazakh University with the support of UNESCO Almaty Cluster Office, UNESCO International Hydrological Programme and other international partners. The five-day training programme included a number of thematic sessions, including the following:- the impact of climate change on water resources;
- interstate cooperation on transboundary water resources;
- regional cooperation in Central Asia on water and climate change;
- climate change adaptation.
UNESCO organized the session "Global level of interstate cooperation on transboundary water resources" with participation of the leading expert and Executive Chairman of the International Association for Water Law (AIDA).
The primary objective of the training was to promote the cooperation among the representatives of water-related ministries and departments from Central Asian countries and Afghanistan in order to facilitate the dialogue on water resources management in the region. About 15 young specialists from five Central Asian countries and Afghanistan took part in the training.
During the event the participants had an opportunity to discuss the instruments of interstate cooperation on transboundary waters, climate change impact on water resources, as well as the best practices in the field of climate change adaptation.
